Participants in the Community Development Department’s Dance Fest 2009-2010, were rewarded for their excellent work during a brief ceremony at the Warrens Office Complex last weekend.

Demolition Squad, adult winners of the competition, carried off the "Best Male Group" at the ceremony, with Rico King receiving both trophies on behalf of the group.??

Demolition Squad upstaged Alexandra School and Praise Academy of Dance – New Era World Changers before a packed Wildey Gymnasium on January 21, to win the popular dance festival.

Dance choreographer, Jacqueline Brathwaite, received the winner’s award on behalf of her group Tabia, who triumphed in the children’s category. The St. Philip-based dance troupe finished ahead of the Israel Lovell Foundation Juniors and Olos in the competition.

The "Best Anti-Violence Message" award went to Xtra Hype, the 2008 winners; Reactivated Squad won for "Best Substance Abuse Message", while Les Filles Magnifique took home the trophy for "Best Female Group".

The National Task Force on Crime Prevention, the National Council on Substance Abuse and the Bureau of Gender Affairs sponsored the awards for?? "The Best Anti-Violence Message", "The Best Substance Abuse Message" and the "Best Male and Female", respectively.

The ACE awards for consistently high quality performance, donated by the National Initiative for Service Excellence went to Praise Academy of Dance – New Era World Changers, Adrenalin and Xtra Hype.??

Reactivated Squad and Les Filles Magnifique also won plaques for "Significant Improvement", while the trophy for "Consistently Positive Message" went to Praise Academy of Dance – New Era World Changers.

Little People Fun and Frolic, a children’s group, won the "Community Spirit Award", while the top newcomers were Kumba and Supa Crazy. "Most Original" went to Adrenalin and Xtra Hype was presented with the "Team Spirit" award.

The 14 groups were also presented with certificates of participation.
