As part of celebrations to mark the ???Day of National Significance’ on Sunday, July 26, the Ministry of Culture will host two dance recitals by noted Canadian troupe, Collective of Black Artists (COBA).

The first performance will take place on Thursday, July 23, at the Frank Collymore Hall at 6:15 p.m. while the second, a matinee performance, will be held on Friday, July 24, at the Combermere School Auditorium at 5:00 p.m.

The admission is free and summer camps, dance troupes, community and youth groups and students are especially invited to attend.

COBA’s dancers and drummers will also provide pre-show entertainment at this year’s Party Monarch and Sweet Soca Competition at Farley Hill National Park on Sunday, July 26.

The group was founded in Toronto in 1993 and performs traditional West African and Caribbean dance, music and folklore.

The Day of National Significance is part of activities for the Season of Emancipation, which is being held under the theme "Emancipating the Body: Unshackling the Mind."

Upcoming activities for the season include Emancipation Day on August 1, Marcus Garvey Day, on August 17, and UNESCO International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and Its Abolition, on August 23.
