Fifteen groups will take to the dance floor this coming weekend as they battle for the top prize in the finals of the Community Development Department’s popular Community DanceFest.

The event, which will take place at the Wildey Gymnasium on Saturday, January 22, at 6:00 p.m., will see performances by groups from northern and southern communities, as well as those from St. Michael North and South.

Competing for the junior title are Olos, Israel Lovell Foundation Juniors, Tabia and the Christ Church Girls’ Performing Arts Troupe, who are taking part in the competition for the first time.

The adult segment will see six newcomers – Xclusive, Mawd Squad, L&B Prodigy, Bluetooth, Inside Out and J.D.I. They will be joined in that category by Adrenalin, Higher Level, Xtra Hype, Praise Academy of Dance – New Era and the Alexandra School Dancers, who last year placed second and third respectively.

Community Dance Fest Coordinator, Tyrone Trotman, said this year the groups were more competitive, adding that "the quality of the work was so good and the points were so high" that some of the groups who were not selected for the finals were invited to perform at the event.

The Community Dance Fest is an initiative of the Community Development Department of the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, in collaboration with the National Cultural Foundation, the Commission of Pan African Affairs, the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat, and the Ministry of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth.

Community Dance Fest, which is in its fifth year, was formerly known as the Community IndepenDance festival. It seeks to, among other things, foster a community spirit, re-establish the community as a creative space, and provide an avenue through which communities can showcase their talents.

Further information on the finals, including the box offices and tickets, may be obtained at the Community Development Department, 4th Floor, Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael, the website comdev.gov.bb or by emailing comdev@sunbeach.net.??
