Dancin’ Africa, has copped the prestigious Madam Ifill Award for the third time in the dance group’s 20-year history of captivating audiences with its well-choreographed dance pieces on various themes.

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart presented the trophy to representatives of Dancin’ Africa yesterday during a brief ceremony at Ilaro Court.

The group won gold at the 2006 National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) finals for their dance piece entitled: Embryo in Distress 2006.?? Jennifer Sealy, of Dancin’ Africa, described the award as well deserved and explained that the dance portrayed an anti-abortion message. "It was the only gold awarded across the board for performing arts and not just in dance.

So, we now have our Madam Ifill [Award] for which we are truly proud," she added.

The Madam Ifill Award is the highest non-professional award available in NIFCA dance.?? It was named after Elizabeth Elise Ifill-Barrow, who established a dance school in Dayrell’s Road, St. Michael, for young people between the ages of 15 and 20.
