While it is back to work for most Barbadians on Monday, June 15, day care centres will open one week later to allow time for protocols to be put in place and training to be carried out.

In making the announcement, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said tonight that day care centres, which have remained closed since the island’s shutdown on March 28 as a result of COVID-19, would reopen on Monday, June 22.

She stated: “With all businesses reopening, we recognise that there has to be adequate provision for child care, and while all schools are not fully open and all day care centres have been closed thus far, we believe that by permitting them to reopen it would assist considerably, given those who have to go back to work.”

Prime Minister Mottley stressed the importance of training and the adherence to protocols at these centres. To ensure that these were in place, she said, the centres would open a week later to allow the Ministry of Health and Wellness the appropriate time “not just to share the protocols with them but to do any fine-tuning, checking and training as is required”.
