All private investigators, security guard agencies and security guards have been reminded that their licences will expire this Friday, December 31, and must be renewed no later than Monday, January 31, 2011.

The stipulation is in accordance with Section 17 Clause (2) and (d) of Private Investigators and Security Guards Act CAP. 372 E which states: "A licence is subject to the terms and conditions as are specified in the licence and is renewable in the month of January in each year, upon application to the Board in approved form and on payment of the prescribed fee."

According to the Security Guards Act, persons who fail to renew their licences, but continue to provide security services, will be liable on conviction to a fine of $5, 000 or imprisonment for two years, or both.

A valid certificate of character must also be submitted with each application for renewal.

Additionally, non-nationals applying for, or renewing licences, must provide documentation verifying that they are residents or citizens of Barbados, or have a work permit which allows them to work as a security guard.??jwilson@barbados.gov.bb
