The local agricultural, fishing and scientific community has been given another opportunity to share its views on critical issues impacting the agriculture, fisheries, and food sectors.

That is because the deadline for the submission of abstracts for the upcoming Caribbean Food Crops Society Conference (CFCS) has been extended to Sunday, May 15, 2011.

The abstracts, which are a brief outline of what the presentation, video or work is about, should be submitted via email to The Chairman of the Scientific Committee at chair47cfcssccom@minagriculture.gov.bb. They should be no more than 350 words.

The Scientific Committee will review and notify the authors with regard to the status of their submissions. Some 40 abstracts have been received by the committee, so far.

Among the areas to be discussed at the meeting are: Crop and Livestock production, Post- harvest Technology/Agro-processing, Land and Water Resources, Soils and Fertility Management, Fisheries Management, Agricultural Education and

Extension, Marketing Economics and Policy Issues, Ecological Engineering, Sustainable agriculture, Climate Change, Pest Management, Food Safety and Security, Floriculture and Horticulture and Food and Nutrition.

The CFCS 47th annual meeting will take place from July 3 to 9, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. It will be held under the theme "Assuring Caribbean Food and Nutrition Security in the context of Climate Change."
