The deadline for the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) and the United Nations??? Children???s Fund (UNICEF) Eastern Caribbean Office Poster Competition has now been extended to Friday, November 15.

Students may now send their completed poster on the topic: ???Bullying is everybody???s problem. How can you prevent it, detect it or report it???? to the Office of the BGIS, Bay Street St. Michael by 4:30 p.m. on that day.

The goal of the competition is to deepen children and adolescent knowledge about bullying, empower them and their peers to address the issue and to provide avenues for them to express themselves on the issues if they are confronted by them. It is also expected to lead to the creation of advocacy material (posters) to raise awareness on the severity and implications of the issue.

Bullying may affect anyone ??? those who are bullied, those who bully, and those who witness bullying. Bullying is linked to many negative outcomes including impacts on mental health, substance use, and in some extreme cases may lead to suicide.

The BGIS/UNICEF competition will afford Barbadian students the opportunity to win a number of attractive prizes including laptops and iPads.

For further information on the competition, students may contact the marketing officer at the BGIS, Ronny Yearwood, at 426-2232/42 or email marketingbgis@barbados.gov.bb.
