The deadline for Barbadians to submit names for the Fairchild Street Market is now Thursday, April 22.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is seeking to rename the market and is encouraging vendors working within the facility, tradesmen, butchers, historians, and the public to select a suitable name for the remodelled market, which has been in operation since 1958.
Persons submitting suggestions are encouraged to indicate the reason for the chosen name and must take into consideration Government’s thrust towards the redevelopment of the Greater Bridgetown area, where the market is situated.
The submissions, titled: Search For New Name for Fairchild Street Market, should be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The current re-development project is being undertaken by the Urban Development Commission, in conjunction with the Ministry. When completed, it will include a variety of shops for the sale of food, fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, clothing, craft and repair services.
For further information on the search for a new name for the Fairchild Street Market, interested persons may call the Office of the Manager of Markets at telephone number 535-5133 or 535-5134.
