The Gender Quality Committee of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) will present a petition on behalf of domestic workers to Minister of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development, Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, tomorrow, Friday, March 8.

The presentation will commence at 9:30 a.m. at Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St. Michael.

Coordinator of the BWU Gender Quality Committee, Wilma Clement, said that the petition calls for Barbados to adopt the International Labour Organisation’s ILO Convention 189 – Decent Work for Domestic Workers.

"We are joining with the Caribbean Domestic Workers’ Network, which is made up of seven regional organisations that represent domestic workers.?? Each organisation will present a similar petition to the Labour Ministers in their countries," Ms. Clement disclosed, adding that the objective was to have the convention adopted by year-end.??
