The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) has named the winners in its March Madness Game Show, which took place on March 28, as part of the activities to mark Coastal Hazards and Earthquake Smart Month.

The event was conceptualised to raise the awareness about coastal hazards, and allow the DEM to give back to the community.

Three families, identified as vulnerable, after being selected by the Barbados Red Cross Society and the Eden Lodge Youth Charitable Trust, were the recipients of the Game Show prizes, which included branded paraphernalia and shopping vouchers valued at $2,500.

The show, which was broadcast on the DEM’s Facebook Page, featured three contestants – Senior Sagicor Advisor and gospel artiste, Patrick Estwick, who placed first; award-winning actress, Janine White, who took second place; and actor and social media personality, Akhnanten Burrowes, who was in third place.

They played on behalf of the families. The show was hosted by Teshia Hinds and filmed at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation’s studios.

Each contestant was required to answer a series of questions relating to earthquakes, tsunamis, coastal hazards and disaster management.

The prizes were collected by community members on behalf of the families. The first-place prize went to a family in Black Rock, St. Michael; the second-place prize was received by a Haynesville, St. James family, while the third-place prize went to a family in Ashton Hall, St. Peter.
