(FP)

Volunteers of the District Emergency Organizations (DEO) will be in communities from this Friday, June 14, until Sunday, June 16, as part of a National Community Volunteer Exercise.

The exercise, led by the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) in conjunction with the Barbados Defence Force, will take place from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and run from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Members of the DEOs will be wearing blue polo shirts issued by the DEM and bearing the DEM’s logo to the front and the text “District Emergency Organization Volunteer” in white across the back, and long pants.

DEOs will also have a form where they will be recording information relating to vulnerable persons from within communities across the island.  They will not be collecting any money.

This exercise is designed to confirm the vulnerable persons’ listing for each DEO, as provided by the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs.

It is also expected to test the communications between the DEOs in the field and officials at the DEM. The public’s cooperation is appreciated.
