A Department of Elder Affairs is on the cards for the Ministry of Social Care.
This was disclosed today Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment, Urban and Rural Development, Christopher Sinckler, during a seminar on elder abuse for gazetted police officers, at the headquarters of the Pan American Health Organisation, today.
Referring to the National Policy on Ageing, Mr. Sinckler said, "…the establishment of a Department of Elder Affairs…will bring all matters pertaining to the elderly under one umbrella".
The Social Care Minister commended the management and staff of the National Assistance Board for their dedication to the elderly and noted that there would be some restructuring of the Board.
The National Committee on Ageing is mandated to advise the Ministry of Social Care on matters related to ageing and the elderly.
