Innovation needs to become a practical part of the Barbadian psyche and lifestyle.
So says Executive Director of the Barbados Coalition of Service Industries, Lisa Cummins, as she made a call for Barbadians to patronise the Innovation Room at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre when the Barbados Network Consultation (BNC) 2012 – the 2nd Diaspora Conference is held from August 7 to 10.
"Innovation is the buzz word for a lot of things, but for us innovation must become a practical part of what we do.?? It is not necessarily just the product, but it is also the process.??
"So, we have introduced an Innovation Room at the BNC 2012.?? It will expose Barbadians to those persons who have engaged in the innovative process and produced a product," Ms. Cummins said, adding that she hoped patrons would be inspired when they see what was involved.
She continued: "We will showcase a number of creative and entrepreneurial persons who produced games, and persons who have created mobile apps for iPads and blackberry phones.??You will also have people who are into animation and they will be displaying some of the work that they have been producing at the highest level."
The BCSI Executive reasoned that the theme of the BNC 2012: Linking Generations, Embracing Youth was apt, since it would provide a platform for interaction and an opportunity for the bridging of knowledge gaps.
Emphasising that it was a good thing for older Barbadians, who would have passed through the ranks, to meet with young upcoming Bajans, she reiterated: "The Diaspora Conference allows for the blending of diverse strands and allows us to build on the collective potential of the Barbadian people."
Pointing out that the BNC 2012 would provide an ideal opportunity for Barbadians to network and interact with Barbadians living overseas; Ms. Cummins encouraged the public to participate not only in the Innovation Room but also the wider BNC 2012 exhibition.
Other events scheduled to take place during the 2nd Diaspora Conference include a Creative Economy Showcase, Speed Networking Sessions, Cooking Sessions and the International Career Forum.
