Twenty-three children with varying disabilities will be flying to Trinidad and Tobago today, to attend the POWERGEN Sports Club’s tenth annual Special Children’s Sports and Fun Day, which comes off this Wednesday, March 13.

The trip, which has been sponsored by the National Disabilities Unit (NDU) and Government’s Advisor on Social Policy, Hamilton Lashley, will include students from the Ann Hill School, the Irving Wilson School and the Ellerton Special Unit.

Director of the NDU, Lloyd Springer, pointed out that this would be the second consecutive year that his organisation was assisting with the event, and noted that "this activity forms a significant part of the Month of the Disabled calendar."

Affirming that participation in the event has proven to be beneficial to the children, Mr. Springer stated: "The benefits are many and varied… All students will have new experiences to build on; winning medals will also be satisfying for them."

The touring party will be led by the NDU head, and will also include Mr. Lashley, officials from the NDU, six teachers from the participating schools and parents. They will return to the island this Thursday, March 14.
