Diane Bourne-Daniel’s contribution to the development of the crafts sector in Barbados for more than 40 years, has come in for high praise from Minister of Industry, Small Business and Rural Development, Denis Kellman.

He heaped accolades on the entrepreneur during the presentation of the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation’s Living Treasures: Master of Barbadian Craft award during the Barbados and Caribbean Day segment of the Foromic 2012, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

Minister Kellman said the award speaks to Bourne’s "tenacity of purpose and commitment to the development of our indigenous craft sub-sector.?? In this regard, this award could not have been given to a more deserving person".

He further stated: "Even now in your eighth decade it is my understanding that you still fill orders sometimes in excess of 200 pieces.?? These include magnets, bookmarks and Christmas tree decorations.?? This is indeed a great feat for someone of your senior status."

In acceptance, the octogenarian urged the youth to see entrepreneurship as a viable alternative and pointed out that "Government cannot hire everybody and there are some people that will have to work for themselves".

Mrs. Bourne-Daniel’s Bajan dolls may be found at the Pelican Craft Centre, Harbour Road, St. Michael.
