Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Barbados, Wellington Darío Bencosme Castaños, recently paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security, at Graeme Hall, Christ Church.

Permanent Secretary Terry Bascombe, welcomed Ambassador Castaños to the ministry where they discussed how both countries could form a bond in the area of agriculture.

They spoke about climate change and technology to mitigate its impact on food production, which is mostly open field in Barbados. Other topics included sugar and honey production, renewable energy, youth in agriculture and food security.

Ambassador Castaños noted that in the Dominican Republic they utilise protective production which includes green houses and shade houses.

Barbados and the Dominican Republic mark 50 years of bilateral diplomatic ties.
