Principal of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP), Hector Belle, is pleased with the donation of BBD $30,000 his institution received today at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education, Constitution Road, St. Michael.

The funds donated by Dr. Robert Oxtoby, Professor Emeritus, University of Bolton, United Kingdom, were handed over to Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ronald Jones.

While emphasising that he saw it as an investment in training, Mr. Belle, said: ???We would be using that money more or less to provide training to some of our instructors and, at the same very time, provide some assistance in the assessment of our maritime students in our maritime operations later this year.???

The SJPP Head lauded Professor Oxtoby and his contribution to the SJPP over the years, in particular the development of that institution???s TVET programme and the choice of site at Wildey St. Michael.

And, while welcoming more donations of that ilk, Mr. Belle said he was looking forward to the industry continuing Professor Oxtoby???s example by providing investment in the future of our youth.

???An investment in training of our instructors is something that would have a multiplier effect in time to come because when you train one instructor, that training can be transferred to many more students, and as a result of that our nation should grow.

???I think this year, being our 50th anniversary of Independence, is a good time to start this process of donating towards the technical vocational education in Barbados because it???s one of the leading pillars on which one would expect this country to grow, in the next decade and beyond,??? the Principal stated.
