Dr. Kenneth George has been appointed as Barbados’ Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Governor General Dame Sandra Mason, acting on the advice of the Administrative General and Professional Service Commission, approved Dr. George’s appointment, which took effect on September 1, 2020. The medical professional had acted in that position from September 24, 2008.

Over the years, Dr. George served with distinction in various capacities in Barbados’ public health system. He commenced his career in the post of Registrar 1, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

He has also held appointments as a Clinical Medical Officer – Polyclinics (Primary Care Services) for nine years, and Senior Medical Officer of Health, which was his most recent appointment, prior to his promotion to the top medical post in Barbados.

More recently, Dr. George has been spearheading this island’s response to COVID-19, both on the frontline and in an advisory capacity.
