Erdiston Teachers??? Training College will share the spotlight with Britain???s Oxford University this week.

The College???s Deputy Principal, Dr. Patricia Saul, is participating in the World Literacy Summit 2014 (worldliteracysummit.org) currently being held from April 14 to 16, at Oxford University.

The Summit aims to build awareness of the global literacy crisis and provide opportunities for participants to develop strategic plans, exchange information, find solutions and build partnerships to improve literacy standards worldwide.

Literacies: The Power to Change is the overarching theme for the 2014 Summit and it explores the role of new and traditional literacy tools and techniques in the worldwide fight to eradicate illiteracy.

The Summit was opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands and will bring together champions of literacy from across the globe including Heads of State, Ministers of Education, academics, educators and teachers, and representatives from literacy and development organisations.

Dr. Saul is part of an expert panel examining teaching methodologies that support literacy development. Her presentation will address the topic Writing across the genres: A study of syntactic maturity in the written discourse of 11-12- year-old Barbadian Students.

As Deputy Principal of Erdiston College, the educator focuses on the teaching of English across the curriculum and is the present Vice President of the Barbados Association of Reading.??
