Mosquito baits will be installed in drains managed by the Drainage Division.

This was disclosed by Director of the Division, Keith Barrow, who added that staff was being trained in how to install the mosquito bait in the drains.

"That is an initiative by the Environmental Health Department who is already doing a similar programme with utility companies," he said.

He added that staff at the Division would also undergo training with the Environmental Health Department in personal care, as they continue their preparations for the 2012 hurricane season.

Mr. Barrow said staff were also being exposed to training in how best to protect themselves while on the job, and in basic first aid.

He explained that the Division was working alongside personnel from the Barbados Defence Force to deliver a basic first aid training programme especially for field officers.

He noted that their work could result in lacerations, punctures and splashes in the eye, while adding that it was important they were aware of how to deal with such injuries when they occurred.
