The Barbados Drug Service (BDS) has cautioned doctors and pharmacists as well as the general public against irrational prescribing, dispensing and use of pharmaceutical drugs in response to COVID-19.

In a statement today, the BDS said: “It has been brought to our attention that some doctors are prescribing a variety of medications, and pharmacists are dispensing these medicines.

In addition, some members of the public are requesting and using a variety of medicines irrationally.

“These practices, it revealed, were significantly reducing the availability of medicines to service the population, adding “it also goes strongly against the spirit of being our brother’s keeper”.
