| The East Coast bus tour takes place??on Sunday, March 10.(FP) |
All those participating in the East Coast Bus tour this Sunday, March 10 are advised that three Transport Board buses will leave Martin’s Bay, St. John, at 3:30 p.m. sharp. Those attending are asked to assemble no later than 3:00 p.m.
During the tour, the buses will journey to Consett Bay where they will see the picturesque fishing village which is now one of the few close knit communities left on the island. Consett Bay is affected by coastal erosion due to the winter swells that affect the coast every year.
The tour will then move to Glenburnie where evidence of land slippage on the coast may be seen. From there, the tour will go through Tent Bay and Bathsheba before stopping at Long Pond where participants will engage in a five minute walk. The buses will then return to Martin’s Bay.
Each bus will have a tour guide to explain various elements of what is being seen and answer any questions. ??????
All those attending are urged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a bottle of water. They are also being encouraged to wear something blue to raise awareness about the island’s coastlines.
The tour is being organised by the Public Awareness and Education sub-committee of the Preparedness, Readiness and Resilience working group of the Technical Standing Committee on Coastal Hazards which was approved by Cabinet as part of the ongoing effort to raise awareness about the island’s vulnerabilities.
