In honour of World Diabetes Day on Wednesday, November 14, the Edgar Cochrane Health Clinic will this week discuss Managing Diabetes Through Lifestyle Change.

This session will be held at the Polyclinic’s Wildey, St. Michael headquarters on Thursday, November 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m.?? The facilitator will be Dr. Joseph Herbert, who is trained in family medicine.

In many parts of the world, November marks a month-long series of activities aimed at raising diabetes awareness and calling for urgent action to tackle the epidemic. There are currently 366 million people living with diabetes and this figure is set to rise to over 550 million by 2030.??

The illness is responsible for 4.6 million deaths a year – one every seven seconds.?? In Barbados, 14 per cent of persons over 25 are diabetic or have impaired glucose tolerance and 17 per cent of adults over 40 have diabetes.
