The Enhancement of Teacher and School Leader Effectiveness component of the Education Sector Enhancement Programme (ESEP) II will be launched on Wednesday, February 18, by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, in collaboration with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

The event, which will officially start the consultancy for the Enhancement of Teacher Education Programmes in Teacher Effectiveness at the Erdiston Teachers??? Training College (ETTC) and the consultancy for the Development of School Teacher Effectiveness Plans for Project Schools under the ESEP II, will take place at the Hilton Barbados Resort, Needham???s Point, St. Michael.

Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ronald Jones, is expected to deliver the feature address, while Education Specialist with the CDB, Dr. Martin Baptiste, and a representative of the consultants, University of New Brunswick, will deliver remarks.

A key objective of the two upcoming consultancies is to assist ETTC with the enhancement of its teacher preparation programmes with specific focus on teacher effectiveness. Emphasis will also be on strengthening the capacity of the College to support the professional development of principals and teachers in teacher effectiveness.

Another goal is to aid the Ministry in the development of a framework for teacher and school effectiveness through the development of School Teacher Effectiveness Plans (STEPs) for eight targeted schools under the ESEP II and the provision of specific training to facilitate their implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

The enhancement of professional development programmes for instructors at the ETTC will be designed to set the foundation for effective knowledge transfer of current international best practice teaching methodologies to build capacity at the College.

It is also expected to facilitate the building of national capacity to develop plans aimed at improving school leadership and classroom teaching practices, thereby resulting in the overall improvement in student performance, especially in literacy and numeracy.
