Barbados, for the first time, will join with the rest of the world to celebrate International Day of Mathematics (IDM) on Monday, March 14, 2022.

This country’s involvement will distinguish it as the first English-speaking Caribbean country to be associated with this international affair.

The day, which is also called Pi Day, will see students and teachers in both public and private primary and secondary schools celebrating this respected event under this year’s theme Mathematics Unites.

On Monday, the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training will showcase samples of students and teachers’ work, as well as resource materials in its “Mathematics Village”, located in the Media Resource Department (MRD) auditorium, which will continue until Friday, March 18.

Members of the public are invited to take a virtual stroll through this village.  The link for the virtual tour is on the MRD’s website

Schools are also expected to plan their own activities and to showcase both students and teachers’ work on March 14. These include Combermere, Providence, and People’s Cathedral.

On Monday, March 7, the Ministry of Education launched International Day of Mathematics 2022, where plans for the celebrations were unveiled.  The launch is available for viewing on MRDbarbados YouTube

Videos showing students’ expressions of joy in learning Mathematics and amazing Maths’ facts can also be found on the website, which is a repository for the Ministry’s educational materials.
