Over 150 educators from across the island will attend a professional development seminar next week centred on the dyslexic learner.

A collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), it will be held from October 4 to 7, in the Conference Room of the Savannah Hotel, Hastings, Christ Church, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Understanding The Dyslexic Learner: Identification, Diagnosis and Remediation is the title of the seminar, which aims to assist principals and teachers to identify and work towards diagnosing and remedying situations of dyslexia.

The opening ceremony takes place on Tuesday, October 4, at 9:15 a.m., and will be addressed by Minister of Education, Ronald Jones.

Facilitator for the four-day event will be Professor of Education and Counselling Psychology & Special Education at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Linda Siegel, who is also Chairman of the Dorothy Lam Foundation in Special Education.
