Promoting Quality Education Through Healthy Minds and Bodies is the theme for this year’s Education Month.

The month, which officially got underway on Monday, with divine worship at the Mount of Praise Wesleyan Holiness Church, was opened with a feature address by Education Minister, Kay McConney, at the church located at Tudor Bridge, St. Michael.

Education Month 2022 will continue this week with the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training (METVT) hosting a stress management presentation and discussion on the online platform on Thursday, October 6, and a Sport Your Shirt and Move Day for those in educational institutions, on Friday, October 14.

On Sunday, October 9, the Ministry will hold a hike, starting from Barclay’s Park, at 6:00 a.m. Student Support Services will also commemorate its 25th anniversary with corporate worship at Sanctuary Empowerment Centre, Country Road, St. Michael, at 10:00 a.m.  This will be followed by a luncheon at Island Inn, Aquatic Gap, St. Michael.

Student Support Services will host a sensitisation session on the online platform on Thursday, October 13, while on Saturday, October 15, there will be a hike from Farley Hill, National Park, beginning at 6:00 a.m.

The following week, October 16-22, schools are encouraged to host Open Days where parents and members of the public can visit and see the various arts/craft and science projects at these institutions.

Among the activities planned by the Ministry for the week are: a panel discussion on Healthy Minds & Healthy Bodies for Quality Living, on Tuesday, October 18, from 6:00 p.m.; a lunch-time concert at the Speighstown Esplanade, St. Peter on Wednesday, October 19, and a HYPE (Healthy Youth through Physical Education) Day for primary schools on Thursday, October 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Teachers’ Professional Day will be celebrated on Friday, October 21, and on Saturday, October 22, there will be a hike from Gun Hill Signal Station, St. George, from 6:00 a.m.

During the next week, there will be a hike from St. John’s Parish Church on Sunday, October 23, beginning at 6:00 a.m.; a lunch time concert in the City on Wednesday, October 26, the Secondary Schools’ HYPE Day on Friday, October 28, and an Ole’ Time Family Picnic and Island Tour on Saturday, October 29, from 10:00 a.m.

The celebrations for Education Month will culminate in the early part of November, with a Health and Movement Fair, at the Elsie Payne Complex, Constitution Road, St. Michael, on Thursday, November 3. There will also be a Ministry Lime/Open Mic, Karaoke, which will include a recognition ceremony for retirees, on Friday, November 4.

In keeping with the theme and the Healthy Lifestyle Coalition Movement, the METVT is also encouraging persons at educational institutions to become physically active and to wear clothing to aid this. To this end, members are encouraged to sport Ministry polo shirts and make movement a part of their activities, every Friday. To further accommodate this, weekend hikes have been built into the schedule.

In addition, the educational fraternity will be undertaking a Water Challenge – making water the choice of beverage throughout the celebrations. For more information on these activities, you may view the calendar by clicking here.
