Tuesday, October 26 has been designated as Give a Book Day and members of the public, especially teachers and students, are encouraged to buy a book for someone, give a book to a school or exchange books with friends or workmates across the private and public sectors.

This will be a major feature of activities next week to mark Education Month, which is being celebrated under the theme "Embracing a Positive Attitude: The Impetus of Achievement".

On Wednesday, October 27, the 14th John Cumberbatch Memorial Lecture entitled Recovery Begins with Teachers will take place at the Almond Bay Conference Centre, Hastings, Christ Church at 7:00 p.m.?? It will be addressed by Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade, Senator, Maxine McClean.

The month’s activities will climax with National Open Day on Friday, October 29 where the public is encouraged to visit schools.?? On Saturday, October 30 there will be netball and cricket matches at the Bridgefield Playing Field in St. Thomas, where staff from the Ministry of Education will compete against teachers in the system. jgill@barbados.gov.bb
