An Education Research Consortium (ERC) is about to be established on the island.

The Higher Education Development Unit (HEDU) of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation will launch the new initiative on Wednesday, October 21, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.

The launch, which forms part of the Education Month activities, begins at 10:00 a.m.

According to Director of the HEDU, Dr. Patrick Rowe, the initiative aims to establish a body of local and international researchers who will execute collaborative investigation and inquiry that is focused on strengthening national planning and development.

???For too long, regional academics have published limited amounts of research to support policy and decision making, and the hope is that the ERC will function to improve on this constraint,??? Dr. Rowe said.

Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ronald Jones, will deliver the feature address at the launch of the ERC.

The event will also be addressed by Chair of the Steering Committee for the ERC and Pro Vice Chancellor Planning and Research of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Professor Andrew Downes; and Associate Professor of Coppin State University USA, Dr. Errol Bolden.
