Government, through the Ministry of Industry, Small Business and Rural Development, is intent on enhancing the manufacturing sector.
This assertion came from Minister Denis Kellman, during his remarks at the launch of Caribbean LED Lighting Inc., at the Hilton Barbados, last night.
Minister Kellman said that there had been some communication between officials from his Ministry and the Barbados Manufacturers’ Association, and stated that as a result "we will seek through policy formulation, an enabling framework and advocacy to create an environment that is conducive to the sector’s expansion and sustainability".
He further stated that the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC), which provides services in the areas of research, information and design, "will continue to offer technical assistance, which will allow the various enterprises to re-tool as they seek to improve the quality of their product and their production efficiency".
The Industry Minister gave the assurance that Government would continue to give the necessary assistance to "raise the standards of the manufacturing sector", as long as it does not conflict with the World Trade Organization’s rules.
