The National Housing Corporation is “making reasonable progress” in the electrical upgrade of units in the Bonnetts Development. This word came from Special Assignments Officer at the National Housing Corporation (NHC), Roger Ward.

“Three blocks have been completed so far and workers are now excavating trenches and manholes, laying conduits, installing cables and reinstating foot paths,” he explained.

The upgrading of the electrical supply of housing units which began Monday, February 23, is being carried out by NHC personnel and also includes connections to meter bases and breaker panels.

Mr. Ward thanked the residents for their support and cooperation and disclosed that work in the area should be completed by April 4. The upgrading project includes all units, irrespective of whether persons are owners or tenants. Following the work at Bonnetts, the team will move to the Ivy and Rosemont Housing areas in St. Michael.

The upgrade is taking place at this time for two reasons. “We have made the commitment to the tenants to upgrade the electrical system to increase their capacity. And secondly, there have been some changes by the Government Electrical Engineering Department which dictate that any upgrade we do now would have to be in line with current standards. It would allow tenants themselves to upgrade the internal works to accommodate large appliances and so on,” he said.
