Students from 22 primary and secondary schools will compete in the annual Electricity and Renewable Energy Science Exposition on Thursday, April 26, at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI), Wildey, St. Michael, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

It is being hosted by the Media Resource Department of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation in collaboration with the Barbados Light & Power Company Limited.

The event will be held in the SJPI’s auditorium and judging will take place between 9:00 a.m. and noon.  Members of the general public and students will be invited to view the exhibits from noon to 3:00 p.m.

The aim of the science exposition is for students to develop projects which focus on the use of electricity and alternate sources of energy. Participants are required to develop a project that is investigative and or inventive. The projects can be original, an improvement upon an existing product or an innovation that takes it in a completely different direction. The competition targets students between seven and 18 years of age.

The Barbados Light & Power Company Limited has sponsored all prizes in both the primary and secondary categories totalling $10,000. First place carries a $2,500 prize while second and third place winners will be awarded $1,500 and $1,000, respectively.
