The Second Annual Electricity and Renewable Energy Science Exposition will be held next month by the Media Resource Department (MRD), a section under the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.

The event, slated for Tuesday, May 9, will take place in the assembly hall of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP), Wildey, St. Michael. It will comprise a judging segment in the morning and a viewing of work in the afternoon which is open to the public.

Sponsored by the Barbados Light & Power (BL&P) Co. Ltd, it will highlight over 20 projects from primary and secondary schools, developed over the past two terms by students working in conjunction with teachers and parents.

The work will be judged by a panel comprising members of BL&P, the Future Centre Trust, the Ministry and the Barbados Renewable Energy Association, from 9:15 a.m. until noon.  The results of the exposition will be divulged prior to the viewing of the exhibits, which run from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Along with MRD officials, other senior personnel within the Ministry, as well as representatives from BL&P, schools and businesses, are expected to be in attendance. Acting Chief Media Resource Officer, Burkley Lowe, will briefly address the gathering.

Members of the public and parents and guardians, in particular, are invited to view the projects, some of which will be further displayed at this year’s BMEX at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, from June 2 to 5.

The Electricity and Renewable Energy Science Exposition is an annual event agreed upon in the partnership arrangement between the BL&P and MRD, since May 2015.  According to the MRD, its key aim is to provide the nation’s children with opportunities to elevate their experience in science and technology.

Last year’s inaugural exposition saw Daryll Jordan Secondary winning the top prize in its category, while Cuthbert Moore Primary won in its division.  Daryll Jordan also went on to win the top prize for The Most Innovative School Display at BMEX 2016 with their exhibit entitled Fogaponics
