Through the Eyes of a Child is the name of an upcoming photographic exhibition which will come off at Art Splash Gallery, Hastings, Christ Church, depicting the work of students from Ellerton Primary School.

The exhibition, which is part of the school???s activities to mark Barbados??? 50th Anniversary celebrations, officially opens on Sunday, February 21, at 4:00 p.m.

It features the work of children aged six to 10 done over the past three years.

In 2015, the school, located in St. George, received an Incentive Award for the Most Promising School in photography ??? NIFCA Photographic Arts 2015. One student also received a Silver Award for his piece entitled Trilogy, as well as an incentive award. Patrons visiting the exhibition will see photography taken mostly at Codrington College, St. John, as well as within the school???s environment.

Principal, Donna Allman, speaking about the exhibition, said: ???Over the years, we have been successful in terms of getting those major awards. Through the Eyes of A Child is about how the child sees his/her environment and how he/she captures this.???

Mrs. Allman, who is a member of the Barbados Photographic Society (BPS), said the whole concept was derived from her passion and love for photography. ???Children need to be exposed to more than the core subjects of Mathematics and Language Arts,??? she stressed. She added that the exhibition was planned with the aid of the BPS, which conducts photography classes within primary and secondary schools across the island.

The exhibition will open to the public from Monday, February 22, and will run to Wednesday, March 2.
