Barbadians are being encouraged to ???bring a flower’ and participate in this year’s Emancipation Day March and Cultural Presentation which will be held on Sunday, July 31.

Walkers in their African-inspired wear should assemble in Independence Square from 3:30 p.m. Thirty minutes later, they are expected to leave that location and traverse designated City streets to the Emancipation Village at Bridgetown Market, Spring Garden Highway (Courts Pasture), where a cultural programme will follow.

Those persons who are unable to complete the hour-long walk should line the route and join the celebrations on the Spring Garden Highway.????

At the Emancipation Village, there will be addresses by the Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley; and the Permanent Secretary in that Divison, Shirley Farnum, among others.

Additionally, the Barbados Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform a well known piece composed by Roger Gittens entitled Bajan Folk Suite; while the Randy Eastmond Combo will offer-up a number of calypso and folk songs. The Israel Lovell Foundation Dancers will perform their 2010 NIFCA gold medal award winning piece, and their children’s group will also entertain the audience during the programme. There will also be a wreath-laying ceremony as an ancestral tribute.
