Two job opportunities with an established leader in commercial and residential landscaping in Canada exist for Barbadians, and suitably qualified persons are invited to submit their résumés to the Barbados Employment and Career Counselling Service (BECCS), by Friday, June 25.

The first is for the post of Construction Labourer. Interested persons should have a basic knowledge of construction practices and the operation of related tools.  

They will be required to perform maintenance duties, including mowing, hedge trimming and fertilising; operate and maintain equipment and tools; cultivate and maintain planting beds, and carry out physically demanding tasks, such as the lifting of weight 50lbs and over. 

Applicants should possess a certificate in landscaping/horticulture, or a related field; must have experience in landscape construction, such as softscapes, hardscapes and woodwork, and a minimum of three years’ experience in landscaping maintenance.

The job also requires strong problem-solving skills, a good work ethic, attention to detail, and teamwork ability.  The ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and the willingness to work extended hours, on evenings and weekends, are also essential requirements.

The second opportunity is for the position of Maintenance General Labourer.

Individuals should have knowledge of basic maintenance practices and be able to perform maintenance duties, including mowing, hedge trimming designs, and fertilising. They should also have the capacity to operate and maintain equipment and tools; cultivate and maintain planting beds, and carry out physically demanding tasks.

Applicants should possess a certificate in landscaping/horticulture, or a related field, and have a minimum of three years’ experience in landscaping maintenance.

The job also requires good problem solving skills, a good work ethic, and attention to detail, and calls for the individual to be a team player with a willingness to work extended hours, on evenings and weekends.

Persons applying for these two positions must be 18 years or older; have a valid Barbados passport, and be able to obtain a clean Police Certificate of Character. Additionally, they must be free of any infractions outside the jurisdiction of Barbados.
