The Empowerment Fair will take place on Saturday, October 28, at the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc.’s carpark, Lower Bay Street, St. Michael. (FP)

The Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development will host an Empowerment Fair on Saturday, October 28, at the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc.’s carpark, Lower Bay Street, St. Michael, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The fair is being held to observe the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which is recognised annually on October 17. It seeks to provide persons living in poverty, or at risk of falling into poverty, with information and an opportunity to liaise with entities that offer services which could enhance their quality of life.

The event will also give social service agencies an opportunity to share information on their delivery strategies and processes, and deepen awareness among stakeholders of poverty issues.

For more information, persons may contact Rean Gibson at 535-1630, or email at rean.gibson@barbados.gov.bb; or Andrew Pollard at 535-1668 or andrew.pollard@barbados.gov.bb.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty was first established in 1987 to honour the victims of extreme poverty, violence and hunger.

The theme for this year’s activities is: Answering the Call of October 17th to End Poverty: A Path Toward Peaceful and Inclusive Societies.
