Teachers, literacy workers and the general public are invited to learn how to encourage excellence in reading during the Barbados Association of Reading’s (BAR) Annual Reading Conference.
The 10th Reading Conference, which has the theme Building Excellent Readers, will take place from December 1 to 2, at the Accra Beach Hotel.
The opening ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the keynote speaker will be newspaper columnist, retired principal, educational author and moderator, Jeff Broomes.
On December 2, the sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. Neuropsychologist Dr. Toni Nicholls will make a presentation on “Literacy and Memory”, while Deputy Curator of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, Kevin Farmer, will discuss “Literacy and Heritage”.
In concurrent workshop sessions, teacher and author Miranda Fergus will focus on “Creating Teaching Aids on a Budget”; writer Linda Deane will share insights on poetry and prose writing; and Joyce Stewart will discuss “Understanding the CSEC English SBA”.
