Winners of the Division of Energy???s online competition to raise awareness about energy efficiency and renewable energy were today presented with their prizes at the Division???s Trinity Business Centre, Country Road, St. Michael location.

Christine Broomes, Phyllis Cummins, Jenele Collins and Kerry Moore were on hand to receive their vouchers for five free LED light bulbs and an ???Energy Efficient??? logo t-shirt, which they won by logging on to the Division???s Facebook page, liking the page and taking a quiz related to renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The winners also had to encourage others to take the quiz.??The event was coordinated by the Energy SMART Fund, which was established by the Division in 2011, to provide financial and technical support to renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) projects in Barbados.

Project Coordinator with the Fund, Sherry Waithe, explained that one of its components was a public relations campaign designed to implement energy efficiency and promote renewable energy in Barbados. She added that the online activity was the first in a series of promotions which were expected to end next month.

The objective of the Energy SMART Fund is to increase the use of viable RE and EE technologies in Barbados, in order to decrease energy costs of the population; increase the country???s energy security by reducing its dependency on imported fossil fuels; and increase local and global environmental sustainability by reducing emissions of polluting substances, particulate matter, and carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
