Entry forms for the Community Development Department’s (CDD) popular dance competition, Community Dance Fest, which gets underway this month, are now available.

They can be collected from the Community Development Department at Warrens, and at community centres across the island or downloaded from its website, http://www.comdev.gov.bb/. ????

The forms must be submitted to the Chief Community Development Officer, 4th Floor, Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael, by Saturday, November 7, 2009.

Submissions may be done by hand, mail or fax at 421-2171 and further information may be obtained by contacting the department at 310-1700 or 310-1701.

Dance Fest 2009 will run from November 16 until January 21, 2010 and the CDD is inviting interested persons to sign up for this year’s event, which promises to be an exciting opportunity for young amateur dancers.

To be eligible for the competition persons must reside in Barbados and all group members must be at least six years old by November 1, 2009. Groups must have no less than three persons and dance groups over five years old will not be eligible to take part in the competition.

In this regard, there will be a special workshop at the offices of the CDD this weekend, Saturday, November 7, at 10:00 a.m. to discuss the competition. Dance participants, group representatives, artistic directors and choreographers are especially invited to attend.

The meeting will take place on the 2nd Floor of the Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael.

Persons are asked to contact the department to indicate their interest in attending and to gather more information about the rules and regulations of the competition.

The preliminaries will take place for the Northern Zone on Monday, November 16, at the Coleridge and Parry School; the Southern Zone on Tuesday, November 17, at the Foundation School; the St. Michael North Zone on Wednesday, November 18, at the St. Michael School and St. Michael South on Thursday, November 19, at the same venue.

The Zone Finals are scheduled for the Northern Zone on Monday, December 14, at the Coleridge and Parry School; Southern on Tuesday, December 15, at the Foundation School; St. Michael North on Wednesday, December 16, at the St. Michael School and St. Michael South on Thursday, December 17, at the same venue. The admission is free and all shows start at 6:00 p.m.

Community Dance Fest, which is in its fourth year, is coordinated by the CDD in collaboration with the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat, the National Cultural Foundation and the Commission for Pan-African Affairs.
