Government has appointed Jerry Blenman as Executive Consultant in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, with specific managerial responsibility for the National Sports Council (NSC) and Gymnasium Limited.

Mr Blenman, who is on contract for one year, began his appointment on September 1. He will act as Interim Chief Executive Officer of both organisations.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, described Mr. Blenman???s appointment as ???strategic???, explaining that ???it allows for both organisations to benefit from his expertise as a financial analyst???.

He added: ???The immediate benefits of having a single person in charge of both entities are cost savings and greater efficiencies.?????Mr. Blenman, who is also an experienced banker and business management analyst, worked at several of the island???s leading financial institutions, including the Barbados Public Workers??? Cooperative Credit Union Ltd. and Barbados Mutual Life Assurance (now Sagicor Financial).

Referring to the proposed merger of the NSC, Gymnasium Ltd. and Kensington Oval Management Inc. (KOMI), Minister Lashley explained that this was a proposal that was engaging the attention of Cabinet. However, he added, a decision has not yet been made on the matter.

???Should the Cabinet agree that the entities be merged, then the necessary discussions and consultations will take place with all relevant parties,??? Mr. Lashley said.
