A Government Minister has advised small business owners to exploit the opportunities under the revised Treaty of Chaguaramas to contribute to the economic prosperity of Barbados.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Empowerment, Innovation, Trade, Industry and Commerce, Patrick Todd, threw out this challenge to the sector, while addressing the official launch of Therml Impac Affordable Homes Company Limited’s (TIACHO) model house, last Sunday.?? It was held at Lot 112, Bonita Avenue, Dolphin Park, Christ Church.
Noting that Government was committed to providing an environment that was conducive to competitive production and innovation, he commended Weekes Kingdom Builders, one of two local companies involved in the project, for pursuing strategic links with other Caribbean building firms.
"Such strategic business partnerships among CARICOM businesses are encouraging and it highlights the opportunities which the CARICOM Single Market affords regional business persons by facilitating their commercial activity," Mr. Todd added.
Describing TIACHO as a brilliant initiative, The Minister said it would assist Government with lowering the cost of living, and also provide low income homes for Barbadians as well. "It is no secret that reducing the cost of living and housing every single Barbadian, are two key objectives of this administration.?? With this in mind, the project being launched, addresses both objectives and adds to the pool of housing solutions which the Government can choose from to address the critical housing demands for its citizens."
Mr. Todd pointed out that enterprises must exploit niche areas in their respective operations and employ modern technologies, to create products that would "sustain a decent standard of living for the needy amongst us".
Chairman of TIACHO Limited, Kayam Baboolal, said the Trinidadian-based company was pleased to be in partnership with Steve’s Building Works Limited and Weekes Kingdom Builders Inc in this venture.
He said the building system was hurricane, earthquake and storm resistant.
