The Fairchild Street Market will be demolished between Saturday, May 26 and Monday, May 28.

The Ministry of Transport and Works will oversee the demolition process which starts at 7:00 a.m. daily, and is expected to include the removal of asbestos sheets from the market’s roof structure.

The removal of the asbestos and its transportation to the dump at Rock Hall, St. Thomas will be done under the supervision of officers from the Environmental Protection Department. Hoarding will be placed around the market to facilitate the demolition.

Members of the public are advised to avoid the worksite, and to stay outside of the boundary lines which will be clearly marked with caution tape.

The Fairchild Street Market is being redeveloped into a spacious vendors’ market as a way of reducing the amount of random street vending in that area of Bridgetown.

The redevelopment will also allow for a freer movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
