Barbadians will get an opportunity to discuss domestic violence and advocate for its eradication from within our society this weekend after the premiering of Fantasy Shot, a locally produced documentary on domestic violence.

It will be shown at the Olympus’ VIP Theatre, Sheraton Mall, Christ Church, this Friday, November 25, at 7:30 p.m. and members of the public who are interested in attending should call 310-2105.

The event will be a fundraiser for the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Barbados (BPW) and the documentary is expected to encourage others to share and deal with the issues of domestic violence honestly and openly.

Fantasy Shot dives into "the world of women who have experienced domestic violence, while giving them a makeover that is inspired by their fantasy – whatever it is that they have imagined". According to a BPW official, this fantasy give women the opportunity for self-actualisation and inspire a life-long memory that would allow?? others in similar situations to see and realise that they can all have fantasies which can be achievable and act as a catalyst to transform their lives".

BPW runs the Shelter for Battered Women in Barbados, which provides a safe and temporary accommodation for approximately 25 women and their children who have been victims of violence and abuse. The shelter provides free individual and group counselling to its residents and any community member seeking assistance in dealing with domestic violence.??????

The premiering of this documentary is one of several activities the Bureau of Gender Affairs and its stakeholders will be hosting to commemorate November 25 as the Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence.??
