The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations is seeking a Technical Officer. The individual must specialise in Biodiversity and the Environment and will work in the Secretariat of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, located in the Natural Resources Management and Environment Department.

The successful applicant will be based in Rome for three years. They will be expected to, among other duties, support and develop the preparation of documents related to cross-cutting issues relevant to genetic resources and biodiversity, including biodiversity targets and indicators.?? The individual must collect and analyse technical information for the State of the World on Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture; provide technical inputs in the preparation and the interdepartmental coordination of FAO submissions and inputs to the Convention on Biological Diversity and other relevant environment instruments.

They will also be required to prepare briefs for communicating FAO’s activities in the field of biodiversity to other relevant instruments, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, and other relevant stakeholders.

Once selected, the technical officer will also be expected to support the implementation of the Multi-Year Programme of Work, which was adopted at the Eleventh Regular- Session of the Commission. The Programme is designed to allow FAO to implement its full mandate covering all components of biodiversity for food and agriculture in a planned approach.
