Students in the primary and secondary schools will get the opportunity to show off their knowledge to a panel of judges about what sets Barbados apart from other tourist destinations.

The Florida Cruise Association (FCCA) is inviting persons in the age categories of 12 and under and 13 to 16, to write an essay between 500-750 words in Standard English on the topic: What Makes my Destination Different from Others?

To be eligible, students, in the junior and senior divisions should not celebrate their 13th and 17th birthdays by September 26, 2013.

Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form and include the following: country; names and addresses of the students; their date of birth; telephone number; the name and address of their school; the name of the school principal and the school’s telephone number.

The competition will be conducted in three rounds with the winners in each division announced on Monday, August 12.?? The first, second and third prize winners and their schools will receive a cash prize of US $3, 000, $1,500 and $1,000, respectively.

In round one, each school must submit entries – one from each category – to their respective country’s selection committee no later than Friday, June 21.?? In round two, each country must submit the original essays for the two winners selected from each category to the FCCA no later than Tuesday, July 16.

Additionally, the two first place winners will accept their prizes at the FCCA Caribbean Conference in Cartagena, Colombia, which will be held from Monday, September 30, to Friday, October 4.

All finalists, with the exception of their first, second and third place winners in each category, will receive a cash prize of US $200.
