The winning poster in the Senior Division in the annual??Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association Children’s Environmental Poster Competition.??

For over 15 years the Ministry of Tourism has facilitated the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association’s annual Children Environmental Poster Competition.

This competition seeks to promote and stimulate environmental awareness among Caribbean students.

The competition is open to all public and private primary and secondary students in Barbados, inviting them to express their ideas and creativity through art.

Prizes are given for the first to third placed entries at the local level and students are also given a first-hand view of the industry in action through tours on board a cruise ship in the Bridgetown Port.

The 2011 Competition was judged on Wednesday January 12, 2011 in the Marigold Room. The judges were:

???ii)???????????? Mr. Elon Lewis, Barbados Community College,

???iii)???????? Mr. Rodney Ifill, National Cultural Foundation, and

???iv)?????????? Mrs. Janice Whittle, National Cultural Foundation.

Ten (10) schools participated in this year’s competition, five (5) in the Junior Division and five (5) in the Senior Division. A total of twenty eight (28) posters were received, nineteen (19) in the Junior Division and nine (9) in the Senior Division.

Students were required to submit posters depicting at least three (3) ways in his/her destination can make a difference in preserving the environment. The rules of the competition were highlighted and the posters were judged based on the following criteria:

  • Creativity (10 marks)
  • Relevance to the theme (20 marks)
  • Content (10 marks)
  • Quality of Presentation (layout/design) (10 marks)

Barbados’ entries were submitted to the FCCA. The results of the competition at the regional level will be announced by February 14, 2011.??????
