The Ministry of Tourism has provided another creative avenue for teens to share their views on the industry and the environment in the form of the 2011 Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Essay Contest.

This year’s Children’s Essay Contest will see students throughout the Caribbean and Latin America answering the question ???What Does Sustainable Tourism Mean to Your Destination?’ in approximately 500 to 750 words.??

The Junior Division is open to contestants 12 years or under and persons should not have passed their 13th birthday by September 26, 2011. For the Senior Division, participants should be between 13 and 16 years of age and should not have had their 17th birthday by September 26, 2011.

The contest will be conducted in three rounds, with the winners in each division announced in July. Winners in both divisions and their respective schools will be awarded US$3000, US$1500 and US$1000 for first, second and third place, respectively. In addition, the two first place winners from each category will be invited to read their essays and accept their prizes at the FCCA Caribbean Cruise Conference in Puerto Rico in October this year. Other finalists will receive US$200 for their participation.

All entries must be accompanied by an essay contest entry form, which will indicate the student’s school, division and other relevant information.?? Entry forms and essays should be submitted through the Ministry of Tourism, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.?? The deadline for entries is Monday, June 13, 2011.
