The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, in collaboration with the Barbados Water Authority, has presented a Green Paper on the 2020 Water Protection and Land Use Zoning Policy, and is asking the public to give feedback on the Paper.

This new policy addresses the limitations of the existing groundwater protection zoning policy, and proposes a new integrated approach to the protection of all of the island’s water resources, including coastal waters.

Parliament has approved the Green Paper, and in light of the proposed changes to the country’s water zones, the document is being disseminated for wider national consultation.

The Green Paper may be viewed on the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources website, the Barbados Water Authority’s website, and in our downloads section.

Alternately, reference copies of the document are available for viewing at any branch of the National Library Service.

Copies are available for collection at The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, Trinity Business Centre, Country Road, St. Michael, and The Barbados Water Authority, Pine Commercial Estate, The Pine, St. Michael.

Comments on the document may be forwarded via email to policy@energy.gov.bb, or printed submissions forwarded to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Water Resources at the above address.

There will be a series of virtual town hall meetings on Zoom scheduled for three consecutive Wednesdays in July: July 8, 15 and 22. More details on registration for these events will be publicised in due course.
